Jomo Lord Was Born In Trinidad In 1975. The Son Of One Of Trinidad's Most Influential As Well As Obscure Recording Artists Mansa Musa Lord Was Born Into A Tradition Of Artistry. Moving To The Island Of Barbados In 1978 His Musical Inclinations Made Themselves Clear From As Early As Three Years Old. He Could Be Found Plinking Away At Any Piano He Came In Contact With And Began Performing As A Solo Act At The Age Of Seven Performing His Own Composition And Backed By His Family And Sunday School Members He Performed "No More Drugs In Meh Country" And Won A Bronze Award In The Overall NIFCA National Independence Festival Of Creative Arts Competition. He Avidly Pursued Music At The Combermere School Performing In The Cadet Corps Band And Later He Went Through The Richard Stoute Talent Competition Ranks And While Failing To Place In The Finals He Won A Number Of Minor Awards. Jomo Went On To Perform With The Petrotrin Invaders After He Went Back To Live In Trinidad Going To The Panorama Finals With The Steelband In 1994. It Was The Cumulative Effect Of This Early Life As A Performer That Drove Jomo To Teach Himself The Guitar He Got His First One At Age 14 As A Birthday Present And To Eventually Beginning To Compose His Own Music And Write His Own Lyrics. Much Of The Material That Appears On His Debut Album "Free" 2006 Was Written During This Period Post-Trinidad 1995 - 2003 And Abandons What Is Considered 'traditionally' Marketable Music In The Caribbean And Explores A Genre-Bending Musical Landscape That Both Exposes Jomo's Roots And Exposes The Caribbean Market To High Quality Musical Product Without Pandering To The Commercial Sound.
