The New Sounds Were A 1960s Beat Band From New Zealand Best Known For Their 1965 Single On Zodiac Records 'All Night Worker'. Born In Dagenham United Kingdom During The 'Blitz Ray Woolf Emigrated To New Zealand With His Family In 1962. He Had Already Had A Colourful Musical Journey As A Schoolboy Playing In Various Local Skiffle Bands Attending The Jean Burman School Of Music With Helen Shapiro Singing A Song In The BBC TV Programme 'Panorama' And Even Singing - Just Prior To His Emigration - With Emile Ford's Band The Checkmates. In New Zealand Woolf Was Quickly Signed To Zodiac Records And By Coincidence He Toured With Helen Shapiro On Her 1962 Tour Of New Zealand. Ray Joined The New Sounds A Seven-Piece Talent-Laden Band Complete With A Brass Section. They Recorded Two Singles For Zodiac. Please Note That The Band's Name Is Sometimes Spelled As The Newsounds. However Based On The Zodiac Record Label Shown The New Sounds Appears To Be The Preferred Spelling. Ray Has Been At The Forefront Of The New Zealand Entertainment Scene As A Singer And Actor For Over Fifty Years.
